Kristen Sipling hammered down a match-best 25 kills to lead Alvernia University (12-5) to a 3-1 win over Penn State-Berks (6-8) Thursday evening in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.
The Golden Wolves continue to build on their best start in more than a decade and have already surpassed the win totals in each of the last 12 years.
Alvernia nearly gave away the first set. Â Penn State fought off three straight set points to forge a 24-all tie before the hosts put away a 27-25 win.
Berks went down 5-0 early in the second set but stormed back to take a 10-8 lead and eventually leveled the match with a 25-19 win. Â
Alvernia answered with a 25-13 win in the third set then closed the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth.
Laura Wachowicz subbed for setter
Abby O'Donnell and handed out 25 assists. Â
Jillian Baker finished with five blocks, and
Emily Smith had a team-high 14 digs.
Alvernia is off for the weekend and will return to action next Wednesday when it hosts Arcadia University in an important MAC Commonwealth match.
