Reading, Pa. (Sept. 3, 2017) - Juniata College (2-0) took a 2-0 lead over #18 Alvernia University (0-2) and held on for a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.
The Eagles scored the opener in the 23rd minute when Catherine Lanigan collected a rebound off Alvernia goalie
Emma Beamesderfer and deposited her first of the year. Â The guests made it 2-0 in the 65th minute when two of the three Alexander sisters combined for a goal.
Katie Alexander found her sister Sarah who hit a shot that was ruled to have glanced off an Alvernia defender in the circle.
Alvernia found some energy in the 69th minute when
Adriene Welsh scored her first career goal. Â The Golden Wolves drove a long pass into the circle that Juniata goalie Kylie Edwards tried to avoid touching. Â As Edwards danced out of the way right in front of the cage, the ball caromed off her pad and Welsh pounced on it for the goal.
The Golden Wolves were able to build more pressure in the final minute, but couldn't find the equalizer.

The Golden Wolves return to action Wednesday when they host Misericordia University.
