Reading, Pa. (Jan. 17, 2018) - Albright College got off to a fast start on its way to a 79-36 win over Alvernia University in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action on Wednesday night at Jack McCloskey Court.
The Lions outscored the Golden Wolves 22-4 in the first quarter of play and never looked back.
Albright opened the scoring with a quick jumper from Alysha Lofton followed by three converted foul shots from Devan Horka and Nina Mazzarelli. Alvernia senior Liv Andresfki answered with a jumper of her own to cut Albright's early lead to three.
The Lions went on a 11-0 run over the next five minutes before
Maya Cooper converted two foul shots.
The Golden Wolves scored ten in the second quarter, but were unable to cut into the Lions lead. Albright went into the half with a 38-14 advantage.
The Lions continued their fast pace coming out of the break, and capped off the night with a 25 point fourth quarter.
Mazzarelli led the Lions with 18 points. Lofton and Lauren Killion each finished with a double-double.
Sophomore
Kiersten Ingram came off the bench to lead the team with a season high 12 points. Freshman Julie Ewen and sophomore
Megan Bruno also came off the bench to lead the team with six rebounds each.
The Golden Wolves return to the court on Saturday when they host Lebanon Valley at 1:00 PM.
