BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2017) - Lebanon Valley (10-8, 5-4) put three players in double figures in a 72-47 win over Alvernia University (3-14, 0-9) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
The Dutchmen held a 35-25 lead at the halftime break and took control with a 17-8 margin in the third quarter. Â Emily Mealy led all scorers with 20 points and Maya Cooper had a team-high 15 for Alvernia.
The lead changed hands three times in the first two minutes before LVC put together seven straight points for a 9-3 lead. Â Cooper stopped the run with a layup and Torie Zerbe's lay-in with 2:57 left on the first quarter clock pulled Alvernia within a point at 11-10.
Three straight jumpers for the guests pushed their lead to 19-10 and they settled for a 19-12 lead after the first 10 minutes.
That lead grew to 12 points, 24-12, a minute into the second quarter and reached 14 points midway through the second. Â Alvernia was able to claw back within 10 points by the end of the quarter when Kiersten Ingram knocked down a 3 for a 35-25 score at halftime.
The gap was still 10 points early in the third after Liv Andrefski was good on a jumper, but LVC scored eight straight to take control with a 49-31 lead.
Zerbe joined Cooper in double figures with 10 points.
Alvernia continues the season on Monday hosting Wilkes University for a non-conference match up.
