Golden Wolves Run By Lions, 4-1

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2018) - Junior Taylor Gough scored two assists and a goal to lead Alvernia University (3-8-2) to a 4-1 win over Penn State Brandywine (5-4) on Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves got on the board with just over ten minutes to play in the first half. Taylor Gough sent in an indirect kick which Lauren Gough put into net to put Alvernia up 1-0.

Four minutes into the second half, The Golden Wolves extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal by Melissa Stahl. Kyla Gibson made a diving cross as the ball was about to go out the back line and Stahl gathered the ball off the left post and sent it into net.

Taylor Gough earned her second assist of the night in the 63 minute with a pass into Katelyn Schoener at the goal line. Schoener sent a ball past the keeper to put Alvernia up 3-0 with 27 minutes to play.

Alvernia's shutout bid was spoiled with 22 minutes left to play when the Lions were awarded a penalty kick, which was converted by Penn State's Averie Florschutz.

The Golden Wolves extended their lead to 4-1 with nine minutes remaining on the game. Taylor Gough was awarded a direct kick attempt, which was taken from the 25 yard line on the right side of the field. The junior sent in a perfect kick that sailed out of the goalie's reach and into the top left corner of goal.

Lily Sankey and Kayla Samero split time in net for Alvernia, and combined for three saves.

Alvernia returns to its MAC Commonwealth schedule on Saturday when they host Messiah College as part of Alvernia's
Homecoming and Family Weekend.
