Reading, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2018) - #2 Messiah College (12-0-2, 5-0) scored two goals in the first 15 minutes en route to a 3-0 win over Alvernia University (5-9-2, 1-3) in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action on Homecoming Saturday at Alvernia.
The Falcons got on the board early with a goal in the 4th minute. Nick West took a free kick from outside the
box and ripped a shot into net to give the Falcons an early 1-0 lead.
Nine minutes later, Messiah extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal from Justin Brautigam. David Alejos send a cross over to Jonahtan Groothoff. Groothoff received the cross and quickly sent it into to Brautigam, who score and put Messiah up 2-0.
Messiah would maintain its 2-0 lead for 55 minutes until the Falcons added to their lead. Samuel Ruiz Plaza sent a hird shot into the goal in 72 minute. The hard hit ball hit off the right post and bounced back in towards the left corner.
The Golden Wolves had a couple of opportunities late to get on the board, but were unable to convert.
Grippi played all 90 for Alvernia, earning eight saves.
The Golden Wolves continue their MAC Commonwealth schedule on Wednesday when they host Widener.
