Reading, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2018) - Lebanon Valley College (5-3-1, 1-1) scored a goal in each half to take a 2-0 win over Alvernia University (2-7-2, 1-1) in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action on Tuesday night at Alvernia.
The Dutchmen initially threatened late in the 10th minute when Rileigh Jo Evitts had an empty net opportunity and sent a ball towards the goal. However, Alvernia's
Carli Wasson made a sliding effort to clear the ball and keep the game in a scoreless tie.
Five minutes later, Lebanon Valley broke the scoreless tie when Katie Goldsmith sent the ball in and Alvernia keeper
Lily Sankey fumbled with the save allowing Lucy McGloshen to gather the ball and score.
The score remained 1-0 for the nearly the next 60 minutes until the Dutchmen were awarded a direct kick. Lea Dungan took the kick for the Dutchmen and fired a hard shot at net the sailed just above the reach of Sankey and into net to give Lebanon Valley the insurance goal with about 18 minutes left in the game.
Alvernia had two shot opportunities in the final minute to get within one, but one shot hit the crossbar, and the other was saved by Lebanon Valley's Serena Donmoyer.
Sankey played all 90 minutes for the Golden Wolves, collecting six saves.
Alvernia continues its MAC Commonwealth Conference schedule on Saturday with a road match against Arcadia University.
