Frederick, Md. (Oct. 20, 2018) - Alvernia University (9-7, 4-2) scored early and often to take a 7-0 win over Hood College (0-6, 1-14) in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action on Saturday at Hood.
Morgan Mondschein led the Golden Wolves with three goals.
Andrea Zimmerman had two goals for Alvernia, and
Madison Potthoff and
Taylor Dorrin also netted a goal for the Golden Wolves.
Mondschein opened the scoring for Alvernia in the 9th minute, and four minutes later Zimmerman connected to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0 in the first 13 minutes.
Taylor Dorrin scored the final goal of the first half for the Golden Wolves in the 24th minute.
Two minutes into the second half, Zimmerman scored for her second of the night and to give Alvernia the 4-0 advantage.
Mondschein scored unassisted early in the 46th minute for the 5-0 advantage, and
Madison Potthoff scored with just over a minute remaining in the game to put Alvernia up 6-0.
The Golden Wolves were awarded a penalty corner in the final seconds, and Mondschein was able to get the hat trick on the night with an untimed goal after time had expired.
Emma Beamesderfer,
Nicole Heinze, and
Rylee Lawler all split time in net for the Golden Wolves, but Alvernia did not allow a shot on goal from the Blazers.
With the win, Alvernia moves into third place in the MAC Commonwealth standings with one game to go. Messiah sits undefeated in first place, and Arcadia sits in second with only one loss. Sitting in fourth place is Lebanon Valley at 3-3, who Alvernia defeated earlier in the season.
The Golden Wolves close out their MAC Commonwealth season on Wednesday with their senior night against Arcadia.
