Damien Jennings scored a goal in the 67th minute to break a 1-1 tie and take a 2-1 win over Hood College (8-6-1, 2-5) in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action on Tuesday night at Alvernia.
Alvernia's
Cody Hart opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Hart got a head on a ball that deflected off the Hood Keeper. His header shot sailed over the goalie and over two Blazer defenders and into net.
The Blazers tied it up in the 44th minute with penalty kick opportunity. Ricky Salgado took the kick for the Blazers and shot to thee lower right corner while keeper
Nate Nimo dove left.
The game remained tied for the next 23 minutes before
Damien Jennings tied it up. Hart sent a ball into the center of the box and Jennings tapped it around the Blazer keeper.
The Blazers had multiple opportunities in the final ten minutes, but one was saved by Nimo and four were off the mark.
Nimo finished the night with five saves and earned his first career win.
With the win and an Arcadia loss early in the evening, Alvernia sits by itself in fifth place. With an Albright tie or loss tomorrow night to Widener University, Alvernia will clinch a spot in the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
