Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (Oct. 3, 2018) - Alvernia University (5-6) scored two goals in the second half to take a 2-0 win over King's College (6-7) in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday night at King's.
The Golden Wolves allowed just one shot on goal by the Monarchs in the first half, while firing off five shots on goal themselves. Despite the strong offensive showing in the first 35 minutes, Alvernia was kept off the board and headed into the break with a scoreless tie.
After the half,
Andrea Zimmerman opened the scoring for Alvernia with a goal off the left post for the Golden Wolves. Zimmerman received a cross pass from
Victoria Strasser on the opposite post before turning and scoring for the Golden Wolves.
In the 56th minute, Alvernia received an insurance goal from
Morgan Mondschein, who shot in a rebounded ball off an
Erica Groves shot, to give Alvernia the 2-0 advantage with just over 14 minutes left to play.
The Monarch's had three untimed penalty corners, and an untimed penalty stroke, after regulation time had expired, but Alvernia keeper made saves on each Monarch attempt.
Beamesderfer finished the evening six saves over 70 minutes.
The Golden Wolves return to MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday with a home game against Lebanon Valley College.
