Reading, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2018) - Third-seeded Arcadia University (14-5) scored two second half goals to take a 3-1 win over #2 Alvernia University (11-8) on Wednesday evening in the semifinal round of the MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Championship at Alvernia.
Arcadia took the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Carly Flickinger deflected a ball from Autumn Gahman into the goal. The Knights held onto the 1-0 lead into the half.
Alvernia wasted no time coming out of the break to tie things up.
Erica Groves sent the ball into
Morgan Mondschein in the front of the circle, and Mondschein fired the shot to tie the game up at 1-1.
Arcadia's Mickie March broke the 1-1 tie in the 47th minute. Isabelle Houser was able to get around Alvernia's
Emma Beamesderfer, and sent a quick pass to March. March then sent a shot in past Alvernia's last effort defenders to take the 2-1 advantage.
The Knights added an Insurance goal in the 66th minute with a raised shot to the top left corner from the top of the circle by Autumn Gahman. The Knights would hold on the 3-1 lead for the final four minutes.
Alvernia is eliminated from the MAC Commonwealth Championship. Arcadia advances to take on top-seeded Messiah College. The Falcons topped Lebanon Valley College 7-0 in the other semifinal game.
The Golden Wolves await a bid to the ECAC tournament. Selections for the tournament will be announced on Monday, November 5.
