Dallas, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2018) - Misericordia University (4-1, 3-0) kept up the scoring pace with 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter in a 45-33 win over Alvernia University (1-5, 0-5) Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference football action at Mangelsdorf Field.

Malcolm Carey posted a pair of records with 230 yards rushing and five touchdowns.
Both teams scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter and a pair in the third quarter. Â Alvernia got a touchdown late in the second quarter and held Misericordia to just a field goal in the frame and took a 20-16 lead into the halftime break.
The Wolves led 33-31 at the end of three, but Misericordia scored a touchdown on its first possession of the fourth quarter aided by a short field following a fumble recovery, and scored again on a 6-plus minute drive later in the quarter to close the scoring with under two minutes to play.
The Cougars racked up 530 yards of total offense and the Wolves weren't far behind finishing with a season-best 398. Â Misericordia quarterback Brady Williams threw for 184 yards and rushed for 148 and two touchdowns.
All 11 touchdowns in the game came on the ground. Â Ten of the 11 were scored on plays of less than 10 yards. Â Carey had the one big play of the game taking the first play from scrimmage in the second half 63 yards for the score to put Alvernia up 27-16.
Misericordia scored on the opening possession of the game putting together an eight-play, 61-yard drive that ended in a David Cromwell score. Â Alvernia answered with a 70-yard drive that took less than a minute to score.
Keiron Black got his first start at quarterback and hit
Jordan Day for 15 yards on the first play. Â Carey broke off a 35-yard run on the next play and two players later capped the drive with an 8-yard run.
Misericordia answered with Clayton Vleck scoring on a one-yard plunge to finish off a 46-yard drive that was set up by a good kick off return.
Alvernia was the first to blink losing three yards on three plays on the next drive and was forced to punt, but Misericordia muffed the punt and Alvernia recovered on the 21 yard line. Â Carey punched in his second touchdown from the 2 on a drive aided by two big Misericordia penalties.
The second quarter featured almost half as many drives with Misericordia taking a 16-13 lead on a 29-yard field goal, and Alvernia grabbing the 20-16 lead it held at the break on another Carey touchdown. Â The Alvernia drive featured a conversion on 4th and 16 to keep it going.
Black found
Neeko Scurlock for 18 yards on the play with just over a minute left.
The third quarter had all kinds of crazy action with four touchdowns, and a turnover--an interception by Alvernia's
Tajon Whiten in the red zone.
Alvernia's three fourth quarter possessions ended in a pair of turnovers and a punt.
The Golden Wolves return home for homecoming week and host King's College on Saturday at noon.
