Big Second Quarter Leads King's Past Alvernia, 51-7

Day Scores For Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2018) - King's College (3-3, 1-3) scored 21 points in the second quarter on its way to a 51-7 win over Alvernia University (1-5, 0-5) in MAC football action Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.

The Monarchs blocked a punt with under a minute left in the first half and scored three plays later to take a 24-0 lead at the break.  King's freshman Brenden Mozeleski blocked the punt and recovered at the Alvernia 22 yard line. Sophomore quarterback Tommy Klock completed two passes down to the 4-yard line then found Jayner Garospe all alone in the corner of the endzone for the touchdown with 19 seconds left.

Klock capped off a two-play, 48-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and Klock hit CJ Curry on a 24-yard pass for the 38-0 lead with 6:35 left in the third.

Alvernia got on the board with 8:28 left in the game when Jake Dilcher hit Jordan Day in the corner of the endzone from 12 yards out.  King's scored on the ensuing drive then closed the scoring on a 64-yard pass from backup Tyler Moore to Joel Whitteker.

"We have to get back to work," said Alvernia head coach Ralph Clark.  "We'll have 24 hours to get over it then get back to work."

Dilcher took over for starting quarterback Keiron Black who left late in the third quarter after taking a blindside hit.

"They showed how the whole team works through the full game" said Alvernia freshman Daekwon Hall. "We stayed in it.  That's what we should do as a team, never quit."

Dilcher finished the game 3-for-6 for 25 yards and the touchdown to Day.  Malcolm Carey ran 12 times for 61 yards. King's senior Jordan Downes had 133 yards on 21 carries to pace the Monarchs' offense.  Klock was 15-for-21 for 213 and two touchdowns through the air. He added 26 yards and two scores on the ground.

Downes had all 133 yards in the first half on 19 carries.  Monarch freshman Quincy Clark--son of Alvernia's head coach--took most of the second half carries and ran 12 times for 33 yards and scored his first collegiate touchdown.

"One of my pride and joys," said Coach Clark. "I'm very proud of him.  I said on the headset, 'Guys we got a problem here for three years.' He's going to be one heck of a back.  They have three very capable running backs and I think they found that out today. He's a hard worker. I'm happy for him, but we have to get better."

Alvernia is on the road each of the next two weekends at Lycoming next Saturday and Widener the week after.
