Reading, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2018) - Alvernia University (7-6) scored three straight goals to top Eastern University (3-10) 3-2 on Tuesday evening in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Hannah Doll early in the 13th minute.
Just over two minutes later,
Erica Groves fired a rocket from the top of the circle to tie the game up at 1-1, which held going into the half.
Just over a minute after the break,
Kelsey Stewart broke the 1-1 tie with a goal off a rebounded shot to put Alvernia up 2-1.
The Golden Wolves extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal from
McKenzy Lilliock in the 45th minute. Lilliock scored her first goal of
the season after gathering a loose ball in front of the net and firing on goal.
The Eagles got it back within one in in the 48th minute with a goal from Joelle Wash.
Nicole Heinze and Beamesderfer split time in goal. Heinze played the first 35 minutes and made 10 saves for the Golden Wolves.
Beamesderfer came in for the final 35 and made a save in the 55th minute to keep Alvernia up 3-2.
Alvernia returns to its MAC Commonwealth schedule on Friday with a game against Messiah to kickoff Homecoming and Family Weekend.
