Reading, Pa. (Nov. 20, 2018) - Alvernia University (3-2) used a pair of big runs in the second and third quarters in a 67-40 win over Cedar Crest College (1-4) Tuesday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
The Golden Wolves put together an 18-4 run in the second quarter and followed with a 24-9 run in the third and cruised to victory.
Dej'hanee McNeal scored the first bucket of the game off the opening jump and the first quarter was a back and forth affair with Alvernia holding a slim 17-16 lead after 10 minutes.
Cedar Crest held the largest lead of the first quarter at 12-7, but Alvernia closed with 10 of the last 14 points. Â Four different players scored for the Golden Wolves with
Gabriella DeVito and
Abbie Zerbe scoring three each.
The second quarter was all Wolves with Alvernia outscoring Cedar Crest 18-4 for a 35-20 lead at the halftime break.
The Alvernia defense held Cedar Crest to a 1-for-10 shooting effort from the floor and caused 11 turnovers. Â DeVito had seven points in the quarter and a game-high 10 at halftime.
Alvernia continued to build its lead outscoring Cedar Crest 24-9 in the third quarter. Â The Golden Wolves forced another 11 turnovers and went 9-for-19 from the floor. DeVito led the way with six points in the quarter.
DeVito matched her season-high with 16 points to lead the Wolves. Â
Torie Zerbe also reached double figures with 10 points. McNeal finished with nine points and five boards.
Alvernia is off for the Thanksgiving break and returns to action next Wednesday when it opens the MAC Commonwealth conference schedule at Hood College.
