BOX SCORE Frederick, Md. (Nov. 28, 2018) - Hood College (2-4, 1-0) took a 16-5 lead after the first quarter en route to a 67-48 win over Alvernia University (3-3, 0-1) Wednesday evening in the opening night of MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Hood.
The Blazers jumped out to 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of action before
Torie Zerbe converted a layup for the Golden Wolves to get them on the board with 6:46 remaining in the opening quarter.
Alvernia was held to just three more points in the first quarter, which came off of free throws, while Hood put up 16 in the first ten minutes.
The Blazers extended their lead to 15 in the opening minutes of the second half. The Golden Wolves got it back within eight with three minutes remaining in the third, but the Blazers held a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
Gabriella DeVito led Alvernia's offensive efforts with 14 points and an assist.
Torie Zerbe finished the night with ten points and five rebounds.
The Blazers had three players finish in double figures, with Mia Savoy leading the way with 22 points.
The Golden Wolves continue their MAC Commonwealth schedule when they host Widener on Saturday afternoon.
