Reading, Pa. (Nov. 25, 2018) - Alvernia University (3-2) got a 17-0 second-half run in a 72-52 win over Juniata College (2-3) Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
Rob Young Jr. knocked to a 3-point shot with 10:48 left in the game to put Alvernia up 48-42 and the run continued for over five minutes with the hosts holding a 62-42 lead with five minutes to play. Â Alvernia went 6-for-10 from the floor with four free throws while Juniata was 0-for-6 with a pair of turnovers.
Juniata scored a bucket in the paint on its first possession of the game and didn't trail in the opening 20 minutes. Â Its lead grew to as big as nine points in the first half, 18-9 with 11:59 left in the half.
Alvernia battled back scoring 12 of the next 16 points to pull within a point, 22-21, and Juniata took a 29-26 at the half with a 3 on its final possession.

Kyle Gordon finished off a post feed from Young Jr. Â Juniata's Paul Martello was fouled on a 3-point attempt and knocked down all three attempts to set a 45-42 score, but the Eagles went scoreless for the next five minutes while Alvernia forged ahead.

Nick Youngkin led all scorers with 20 points. Â Young Jr. and Gordon finished with 11 points each and
Malik Green added 10. Â Martello had a team-high 12 points for the Eagles.
Alvernia returns to action on Wednesday when it opens up the conference schedule in a doubleheader at Hood College.
