Lebanon Valley Racks Up 55-7 Win At Alvernia

Carey Goes for 132 Yards And A Score

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 3, 2018) - Lebanon Valley College (1-8, 1-6) racked up 332 yards of rushing in a 55-7 win over Alvernia University (1-8, 0-8) Saturday afternoon in MAC football action at Alvernia.

The Dutchmen passed the ball just five times in the game and scored seven touchdowns on the ground.  Alvernia's lone score came on a 46-yard scamper by freshman Malcolm Carey who scored his 10th touchdown of the season in the third quarter.

With 143 yards rushing Saturday, Carey moved into second place in rushing in the MAC and is also second in touchdowns.

Lebanon Valley picked up two first downs on its first drive of the game Saturday before Josh Shultz forced a fumble that Alvernia was able to recover at its own 25 yard line.  The Golden Wolves then picked up a pair of first downs on the ground before a fumble on a lateral play that was scooped up by LVC's Tyler Gerhart and returned 40 yards for a Dutchman touchdown.

After a three and out for Alvernia, Lebanon Valley put together a 7-play, 59-yard drive with seven running plays capped by a 3-yard run by Hunter Wilson.

Another three and out led to an Alvernia punt and an unsportsmanlike penalty gave Lebanon Valley a short field at the Alvernia 33 yard line. Ryan Fink rushed for 16 yards and another Alvernia penalty moved the ball inside the 10 yard line and Fink took it in from eight yards out for a quick 21-0 lead.

The Dutchmen scored twice in the second quarter and held a 34-0 lead at halftime.

They punched in a score on their first drive of the second half after an Alvernia fumble set them up at the 30 yard line.

Alvernia quarterback Matthew Monteverde had a crucial 19-yard run on 3rd and 18 on the next Alvernia possession and a 20-yard run from Carey moved the ball across midfield.  Neeko Scurlock caught a short pass to move the ball to the 46 and Carey took a handoff off the left side of the Alvernia line and rumble down the sideline for the score.

Lebanon Valley answered with a touchdown later in the third quarter and had the only score in the fourth for the 55-7 final.

Alvernia wraps up its inaugural season next Saturday with a road trip to another team in its first year, University of New England.  Both teams enter the final game of the regular season with a 1-7 record.
