Reading, Pa. (Dec. 1, 2018) - Widener University (4-3, 1-1) outscored Alvernia University (3-4, 0-2) 46-29 in the second half en route to a 83-69 win over the Golden Wolves in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.
Alvernia held the lead for the first six minutes of action before Widener took the advantage following a Jalen Howard three. The Golden Wolves and Pride would exchanged the lead for the remainder, with Alvernia taking a three point lead into the break.
The Golden Wolves would extend their lead to five with 13:41 left in the game off of a
Keon Taylor free throw, but the Pride answered with a three point shot from Tyler Drews, and Drews tied it up seconds later with a jumper.
Alvernia's shooting went cold over the next three minutes as the Pride extended their lead to five with ten to play.
Alvernia got back within one following two free throws and a layup from
Nick Youngkin, but Alvernia struggled to get in a rhythm the rest of the way and the Pride took advantage.
The Golden Wolves were outscored 23-10 the rest of the way, with the Pride taking a 14 point lead, their largest lead of the game, just over a minute remaining.
Alvernia's offense was led by
Keon Taylor, who went 10-18 for a career high 25 points. Youngkin and
Rob Young Jr. also reached double digits with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Widener was led by Tyler Drews who posted 30 points and eight rebounds. Drews went 5-9 from beyond the arc and was 9-10 from the line. Â
The Golden Wolves continue their MAC Commonwealth schedule on the road on Wednesday for a 6:00 PM tip-off against Arcadia University.
