Reading, Pa (Feb. 16, 2018) - Alvernia University (6-6, 2-2) overcame a four point deficit late in the fifth set to take a 3-2 win over Misericordia University (6-8, 0-4) during MAC men's volleyball action at Alvernia.
After dropping the first set, Alvernia took sets two and three, but Misericordia won the fourth to force the fifth and decisive set.
The Cougars and Golden Wolves traded points for the majority of the first set before Misericordia pulled away on a 10-2 run to take the 25-21 win.
Alvernia rebounded and took the second and third sets decisively, 25-16 and 25-18.
Misericordia bounced back in the fourth and held off a late comeback attempt in the fourth before pulling away to the 25-22 win to force the fifth set.
The Golden Wolves went back and forth with the Cougars in the fifth set, with neither team able to take a commanding lead.
With Misericordia up 14-12 late,
Ralph Lunati III got down a kill to bring the Golden Wolves within one. Lunati III followed up with another kill to even the set at 14 all. A block by
Anthony Dadson and Lunati III gave the Golden Wolves the lead, and kill from Lunati III sealed the 16-14 fifth set win.
Lunati III finished the night with 17 kills, 12 digs and two blocks.
Justin Gibbs had 34 assists and 12 digs for the Golden Wolves.
Josh Stewart and Dadson finished the match with a game high four blocks each.
Alvernia returns to continues its conference schedule on Wednesday at Wilkes.
