Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (Feb. 22, 2018) - Sophomore Collin Welteroth pounded down a match-high 15 kills to lead Alvernia University (7-6, 3-2) to a 3-0 win over Wilkes University (4-12, 1-4) in MAC Men's Volleyball action at Wilkes.
The Golden Wolves had a pair of scoring runs on the serving rotations of Ralph Lunati III in the first set, a 25-17 win. Â The first was five straight that had the Wolves up 8-3 and the second was four in a row that had the guests up 19-11.
The second set featured an early run of six straight points for Alvernia which took control at 8-2. Â The Wolves reached set point at 24-16 and saw the Colonels run off four straight points before a kill from Anthony Dadson put Alvernia up 2-0.
Wilkes jumped out early in the third set, but another Alvernia run put the guests in control. Â After a kill from Lunati put Alvernia up 8-7, Victor de Avlia started his rotation with an ace and the Wolves scored six straight again for a 13-7 lead. Â The lead stretched out to nine points and ended there, 25-16.
Alvernia returns home to host a tri-match Saturday with Hunter College and the College of Saint Elizabeth.
