Reading, Pa. (Feb. 24, 2018) - Alvernia University (8-7) split a pair of tri-matches, defeating The College of Saint Elizabeth, 3-0, and falling to Hunter College, 3-1, on Saturday at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves swept the first match of the day, 3-0. Alvernia took the first set, in a quick 25-7 match. The Golden Wolves followed that up with 25-11 and 25-8 second and third sets to take the match.
Collin Welteroth and
Anthony Dadson led the Golden Wolves with five kills each.
Ralph Lunati III had four aces, and
Mike Monczewski had 12 assists.
In Alvernia's second match of the day, the Golden Wolves fell to Hunter College 3-1 in four close sets.
The Golden Wolves took a 3-0 lead early in the first set, before the Hawks came back and tied it up at 3-3. The teams traded points before Hunter was able to slightly pull away with a 3-0 run to take an 18-15 advantage. The Hawks then scored four of the last five of the first set to take a 25-20 set one win.
The Hawks went on to take the second set 25-22, despite the Golden Wolves getting off to a quick 4-0 start. The teams again went back and forth for the majority of the second set until Hunter used a 4-0 run late to pull away.
The Golden Wolves trailed late in the third set, but put together a 3-0 run to take a late 25-24 lead and force the set to continue on. The teams went back and forth, and a kill by Lunati III put the Golden Wolves up 27-26. An attack error by the Hawks gave the Golden Wolves a 28-26 third set win to force a fourth set.
The Hawks were able to pull away in the fourth set following four and three point runs early. Alvernia was unable to come back and the Hawks held on for the 25-18 fourth set win.
Lunati III led the Golden Wolves in the second match with 19 kills. Welteroth finished the second match with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Justin Gibbs finished the afternoon with 49 assists and 12 digs.
