Reading, Pa. (Feb. 7, 2018) - Arcadia University (5-4, 2-0) won the last three sets to spoil Alvernia University's (4-5, 0-1) first ever MAC men's volleyball match with a 3-2 win Wednesday evening at the Physical Education Center.
Alvernia earned a fairly convincing 25-18 win in the opening set then took the 2-0 lead with a 26-24 win in the second.
Arcadia put together a run of seven straight points early in the third set to take a 10-6 lead, but Alvernia battled back to tie the set at 17-all. Â The Golden Wolves took a 21-20 lead on a kill from Collin Welteroth, but Arcadia earned a side out on the next serve then rattled off four straight points to win the set.
The Knights held off a late charge in the fourth set to level the match at 2-2 with a 25-23 win then made a mini run in the fifth to gain the advantage in the sprint to 15, closing the match with a 15-9 win.
Welteroth led the way for Alvernia with 13 kills, three aces, and 13 digs. Â Arcadia's Jason Manley finished the night with a match-high 16 kills.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule on Saturday at Widener.
