Reading, Pa. (Mar. 10, 2018) - Alvernia University (9-11) dropped two matches Saturday in non-conference men's volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.
Lancaster Bible topped Alvernia 3-1 in the second match of the day then Wells College won the last three sets for a 3-1 win in the final match of the day.
Collin Welteroth had 11 kills for the Golden Wolves in the LBC match and Ralph Lunati III had a team-high 14 against Wells.
Lancaster Bible knocked off Wentworth Institute of Tech in the first match of the day, 3-0, then took the first set against Alvernia by a 25-16 score.
Alvernia's big run in the second set came after an LBC service error gave Alvernia a 17-16 lead. Â The Chargers' attack game seemed to lose confidence on the rotation of Alvernia freshman Logan McGinley. Â LBC committed six straight attack errors and Alvernia was up 23-16.
LBC pulled back to within four points, but Alvernia closed out a 25-20 win in the set to level the match at one set apiece.
The Chargers closed out the match with 25-17 and 25-19 wins.
Wentworth Institute of Tech defeated Wells College, 3-0, in the third match of the day, and Alvernia opened the final match with a 25-21 win. Â Wells bounced back with a 25-15 win then earned back-to-back 25-20 wins in the third and fourth sets to win the match.
Welteroth led the team with 11 digs in the LBC match and Justin Gibbs had a team-best 15 digs against Wells.
