Utica Betters Alvernia, 10-7

Abernethy Ties Goals Record With Six

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 17, 2018) - Utica College (2-2) scored two goals to end the second and two more to start the third for a 9-4 lead then held on for a 10-7 win over Alvernia University (0-5) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

Alvernia junior Jarrett Abernethy was virtually unstoppable for the Golden Wolves tying the team record for goals in a game with six.

Abernethy scored a goal in the first and two more in the second--the last one pulling Alvernia within a goal at 5-4 with 3:40 left in the quarter.

Utica regained the two-goal lead less than a minute later and scored with 15 seconds left in the half for a 7-4 lead at the break.

The Pioneers scored twice in the first five-plus minutes of the third quarter for the 9-4 lead and another marker from Abernethy set a 9-5 score after three.

Abernethy sandwiched a goal from Utica's Ryan Desveaux in the fourth for the final count.

Jacob O'Donnell made 13 saves in net for Alvernia.

Abernethy becomes the sixth player to score six goals in a game for Alvernia and the first to do it since Colin Gallagher scored six in March 2013 against Rosemont.

The Golden Wolves continue the season Wednesday when they host Rosemont College.
