Reading, Pa. (Apr. 21, 2018) - Junior Andrew Ritchie headlined a record-breaking day as Alvernia University (2-12) defeated LaRoche College (0-12) by a 27-4 final Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at Alvernia.
Ritchie--who earlier this season became the career record holder in assists--broke the single game records for goals, assists, and points in the win. Â Ritchie finished the game with 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points. He blew past seven players--including classmate Jarret Abernethy--who all shared the previous high mark for goals at six, and his eighth assists are two better than the previous record of six set by Chris Kanauss exactly 13 years ago in a 13-3 win over Hood. Â Tom Novak previously held the points in a game record with 10.
The Golden Wolves also broke the team records for goals, assists, and points with 27, 18, and 45 respectively.
Alvernia raced out to a 9-0 lead after the first quarter getting three goals from Ritchie. Â Tim Bailey scored his second of the season just before the horn at the end of the quarter. Jordan Ludwig scored with 3.2 seconds left and LaRoche was whistled for a violation on the ensuring faceoff. Â Bailey was awarded the ball and ripped a shot from 35 yards out on the official's whistle to restart and the shot found the back of the net.
LaRoche's Brad LaBovick returned the favor with a goal for the Redhawks at the halftime horn, but by that time Alvernia had built a 16-2 lead.
Alvernia scored five goals in the third quarter and six in the fourth.
Austin Lucas scored five goals for the second time this week and Abernethy added four. Â Zach Brommer handed out five assists. Jacob O'Donnell made one save in the first half, and Kyle Lindberg finished the second half and made three saves.
