Glenside, Pa. (Apr. 6, 2018) - Alvernia University (17-7, 9-2) split a doubleheader at Arcadia University (13-7, 5-2) Friday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action at Arcadia.
The Knights took the opener 4-2, and Alvernia responded with runs in each of the last four innings in a 9-4 win in game two.
John Catchmark went four innings in game two with five strikeouts for the win and Zack Landy threw the final three innings with three strikeouts to earn the save.
Nathan Sides was 4-for-5 with three runs scored in game two and Alex Salesky was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Â He smashed a 3-run homer in the fifth inning that put Alvernia up 6-2.
Arcadia had a 2-0 lead after the first inning of game two thanks to a 2-run home run from Phil Pierfy.
Alvernia tied the game with two runs in the fourth. Â Salesky doubled to left center to drive in Franco Esposito and Hunter Hart followed with a single to center to score Salesky.
Esposito's single in the fifth scored Sides to give the Golden Wolves a 3-2 lead, and later in the inning Salesky hit his first home run of the year.
Sides doubled and scored in the top of the seventh and the Knights scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the last.
Thomas Malik gave up three runs--two earned--over five innings to suffer his first loss of the season in the opener. Â The Knights scored two in the second then answered single runs from the Golden Wolves in the fifth and sixth innings.
Dillon Dunne was 3-for-3 for Alvernia in the leadoff spot, and Mike Cirilli had two hits in the game.
The teams head to Alvernia on Saturday to finish the 3-game series.
