Reading, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2018) - Alvernia University (2-4) needed just two goals in the first 15 minutes of action to take a 2-0 shutout win over Wilkes University (3-3) in non conference field hockey action on Saturday night at Alvernia.
Alvernia's first goal of the evening game in the 10th minute. Working off of a corner,
Taylor Dorrin sent the ball in to
Andrea Zimmerman, who was positioned amidst several Wilkes defenders. Zimmerman was able to turn and get a shot off to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0.
Alvernia's second and final goal of the game came just five minutes later. Dorrin dribbled the ball up the right sideline and passed it into
Morgan Mondschein who ripped a shot into net to give the Golden Wolves the 2-0 lead.
The Colonels had three opportunities late in the first half, but two shots were saved by Alvernia goalie
Emma Beamesderfer, and one went off the post.
The Golden Wolves had two penalty stroke opportunities in the second half to take as much as a 4-0 lead, but the stroke from Dorrin was saved and
Madison Potthoff's opportunity went wide left.
Alvernia held Wilkes to just one shot on goal in the second half on its way to the 2-0 win.
Beamesderfer played all 70 minutes for the Golden Wolves, collecting four saves.
The Golden Wolves continue their five game homestand on Tuesday, with a 7:00 PM game against Stockton.
