Reading, Pa (Sept. 18, 2018) - Alvernia University (3-4) needed just one goal to take a 1-0 win over Stockton University (5-2) in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday night at Alvernia.
The Ospreys and Golden Wolves went into the half at a scoreless tie, with Alvernia not allowing a single shot on goal, and
Andrea Zimmerman getting off Alvernia's only two shots on goal in the first 35 minutes.
Morgan Mondschein broke the 0-0 tie five minutes into the second half. Zimmerman had a shot that deflected off the Stockton keeper and back at Mondschein. Mondschein gathered the ball and turned for the goal.
Stockton had opportunities late, including two late shots and a corner opportunity as time expired. But, Alvernia's goalie
Nicole Heinze made two saves in the final 15 minutes, and the Alvernia defense was able to clear the corner attempt before Stockton could get a shot off.
Heinze played all 70 minutes for the Golden Wolves, collecting four saves and earning the win.
Alvernia opens up its MAC Commonwealth schedule on Saturday with a home competition against Stevenson University.
