Reading, Pa (Sept. 22, 2018) - Alvernia University (4-4, 1-0) scored two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 win over Stevenson University (3-5, 0-1) and start 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth Conference on Saturday evening at Alvernia.
Stevenson opened the scoring with a late first half goal early in the 33rd minute. The Mustangs took advantage of corner opportunity to take the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Wolves also took advantage of a corner opportunity to tie the game at 1-1.
Victoria Strasser received the ball from
Kelsey Stewart and fired into goal to put Alvernia on the board.
About 14 minutes later, Alvernia broke the 1-1 tie to take the 2-1 lead off of a goal from
Erica Groves.
Morgan Mondschein took an initial shot that appeared to be heading wide. Groves gather the ball and shot into goal.
Stevenson threatened late when they pulled the goalie to get an extra field player. The Mustangs had a shot on goal and corner opportunity in the final minutes, but were unable to convert.

Nicole Heinze played all 70 minutes for the Golden Wolves, earning three saves.
Alvernia takes a break from its conference schedule on Wednesday when they host Rowan University on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
