Reading, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2018) - Haverford College (2-0) scored three goals in the final 12 minutes for a 3-1 win over Alvernia University (0-2) Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.
The Golden Wolves jumped out early when
Morgan Mondschein finished off a feed from
Regan Downey in the second minute of the game. Â Alvernia had a chance to extend the lead later in the half, but a penalty stroke attempt by
Taylor Dorrin was turned away by the blocker of the Haverford goalie.
Emma Beamesderfer returned the favor for the hosts knocking aside a penalty stroke attempt by Haverford just three minutes into the second half to keep Alvernia up 1-0, but the Fords finally broke through with a game-tying goal in the 59th minute.
Four minutes later Paige Powell carried the ball along the right endline and beat Beamesderfer inside the far post, and Casey Wakai scored on insurance goal from the penalty spot in the 69th minute.
Beamesderfer finished with 15 saves.
