Lions Down Golden Wolves, 58-40

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 16, 2019) - Alvernia University (3-14, 0-8) trailed by just eight points going into the final ten minutes, but the Golden Wolves were held just four points in the fourth quarter as Albright College (9-8, 4-4) took the 58-40 win on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth Women's Basketball action at Albright.

Albright scored the opening points of the game off a three point shot from Lauren Killion. Alvernia matched that on the next possession with a three point shot of its own from Maya Cooper to tie it up a 3-3 early.
Albright hit a layup with 8:30 left in the 1st quarter to take the 5-3 lead, and the Lions extended their lead to 11-5 with 5:03 left in the opening ten minutes.

Alvernia went on a quick 8-1 run that was capped off by a Gabriella DeVito three point shot to give the Golden Wolves a 12-11 advantage with 3:13 left in the first quarter.

The Lions tied it up at 15-15 with :38 seconds left in the first, and took an 18-15 advantage into the second quarter.

DeVito hit a jumper with 8:27 left in the second quart to bring Alvernia back within one, but the Lions went on a 10-5 run over the next six minutes to extend their lead to 28-22.
The Golden Wolves were held scoreless the rest of the half, and the Lions hit a jumper as time expired and converted an and-one opportunity to make it 33-22 at the half.
Alvernia opened up the second half with a hot hand. The Golden Wolves went on a 12-5 run over the opening five minutes of the half to cut Albright's lead to 38-34 with 4:44 left in the third quarter.

Erin Malin hit a layup with 2:11 left in the third quarter to cut the Lions lead down to three, 39-36.

Albright outscored Alvernia 5-2 in the final two minutes of the third quarter to take a 44-36 advantage into the final ten minutes, but the Golden Wolves would only score four points in the fourth quarter as the Lions would take the 58-40 win.

Abbie Zerbe led the Alvernia offense with 11 points. Erin Malin had ten rebounds for the Golden Wolves.

Zaria Mohamed led the Lions with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Alvernia returns to action on Saturday when the Golden Wolves host Hood at 1:00 PM at Jack McCloskey Court.
