Reading, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2019) -
Ryan Kuster netted the game-winner in the 78th minute to lead Alvernia University (3-10-2, 2-1) to a 1-0 win over Stevenson University on Friday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action at Alvernia in the opening game Alvernia's Homecoming and Family Weekend.
With both the Mustangs and Golden Wolves locked in a 0-0 tie,
Matt Lee sent in a corner to
Ryan Kuster, who was positioned just inside the left post. Kuster jumped and headed the ball just under the crossbar and out of the reach of Stevenson's keeper.
The Mustangs held the Golden Wolves to zero shots on goal in the first half, but Alvernia had a great look just minutes before its goal in the second half.
Hunter Martin sent a shot in towards the right post and Stevenson's Matt Stellitano made an incredible diving save with the sun in his eyes to keep the game at 0-0.
Four minutes later, Lee and Kuster would connect to get one by Stellitano.
Ben Solsky made two saves for Alvernia in the final ten minutes to seal the 1-0 Alvernia win. The freshman keeper finished the night with eight total saves.
