Glenside, Pa. (Oct. 23, 2019) - Arcadia University (6-10, 3-2) held off a second half comeback attempt by Alvernia University (9-8, 2-3) to hold on to a 4-3 win in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action on Wednesday night at Arcadia.
Arcadia wasted no time getting on the board, with Aderha Ahern finding the back of the goal just over a minute into action.
The Golden Wolves tied it up nine minutes later on a successful penalty stroke attempt by
Madison Potthoff.Â
The Knights then went on a 3-0 scoring run to extend their lead to 4-1 with 26 minutes remaining.Â
Alvernia began chipping away in the 42nd minute when
Brooke Spezialetti connected with
Makenzie Smeigh to make it 4-2.
The Golden Wolves then got within one in the 44th minute when Potthoff connected with
Morgan Mondschein to make it 4-3.
Alvernia would get two more shots off, but was unable to tie it up.
Emma Beamesderfer played all 60 minutes for Alvernia, making two saves.
The Golden Wolves drop to 2-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. They currently sitting in a four-way tie for fourth place with two conference games remaining. The top four teams advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
