Annville, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2019) - Lebanon Valley College (7-7-2, 3-2-1) scored a golden goal just two minutes into overtime to take a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (3-11-3, 2-2-1) on Thursday afternoon at Lebanon Valley.
The Dutchmen wasted no time getting on the board, scoring the opening goal of the game just 38 seconds into the action. The Dutchmen were granted a penalty kick, and Alvernia keeper
Ben Solsky made the initial save. But, Lebanon Valley's Peter Foerster collected his own rebound and fired one past Solsky to give Lebanon Valley the early 1-0 lead.
The Dutchmen added to their lead 41 minutes later with a goal by Alex Weese.
The Golden Wolves got one back in the 54th minute when
Edwin Navas found
Taylor Kauffman on a cross and Kauffman headed it into goal to cut Lebanon Valley's lead to 2-1.
With just under two minutes remaining in regulation, Alvernia tied it up when
Hunter Martin connected with
Braden Kreider on a long pass 20 yards out. Kreider then shot it into the top left of the goal to tie it up at 2-2.
The Dutchmen got a shot off with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, but the shot was blocked.
Lebanon Valley need just two minutes of overtime to break the 2-2 tie. Brandon Shuck got a shot past Kreider inside the right corner.
Heading into the game, Alvernia and Lebanon Valley were both tied for fifth place in MAC Commonwealth standings. With the Dutchmen win, Lebanon Valley moves up to third place. Alvernia falls to sixth place and is on the outside looking in at the five team playoff with three games to play. Stevenson and Lycoming sit tied for fourth place. Alvernia defeated Stevenson earlier in the season, and will play Lycoming at home this Saturday.
