Reading, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2019) - Lycoming College scored on a penalty kick with two minutes remaining in regulation for a 3-2 win over Alvernia University in MAC Commonwealth Women's Soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the first twenty second when they took the opening kickoff straight down the field and scored to go up 1-0.
The Golden Wolves evened it up at 1-1 in the 14th minute.
Taylor Gough sent in a free kick towards goal and
Alison Hyde headed it into net.
Alvernia took the 2-1 lead early in the 54th minute when
Lauren Gough sent in a shot from nearly 30 yards that snuck into the upper left corner of net and just over the keeper's reach.Â
Lycoming tied it back up at 2-2 when Lycoming's Gabby Perez drew Alvernia keeper
Lily Sankey out of net and Perez fired a shot past Sankey and into net.
With the game tied at 2-2, Lycoming drew a foul just inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity. Lycoming's Bella Green shot left and Sankey dove left, but the shot got by just out of Sankey's reach.Â
Kyla Gibson was able to get a shot off in the final minute, but was unable to convert as Lycoming went on for the 3-2 win.
With the loss, Alvernia is officially eliminated from playoff contention.Â
The Golden Wolves have to games remaining on the season. They head to Widener on Wednesday night and host Albright College on Friday night to close out the season.
