Annville, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2019) - Lebanon Valley College (6-5, 2-0) scored a goal in the 6th minute of overtime to take a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (6-6, 0-2) on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action at Lebanon Valley.
Alvernia wasted no time getting on the board, with
Felicia Getz directing the ball towards
Morgan Mondschein off the left post just 59 seconds into the game. Mondschein made a diving attempt to redirect the ball into net and put Alvernia up 1-0.
Just 48 seconds later, Lebanon Valley tied it up with a goal from Cecile Kat to make it 1-1.
Both teams would go scoreless to remain locked at 1-1 over the next 58 minutes.
Alvernia's
Emma Beamesderfer held off an offensive onslaught by the Dutchmen in the fourth quarter, making three saves for the Golden Wolves. Alvernia's
Madison Potthoff also made a defensive save in the fourth quarter to keep it tied at 1-1 and to force overtime.
The Golden Wolves had two shots on goal in the opening minutes of the first overtime, but both shots were saved by Lebanon Valley keeper, Nikki Willi.Â
The Dutchmen finally broke through in the 6th minute of overtime when Kat deflected a shot off of Beamesderfer and into net for the golden goal.
Beamesderfer finished the afternoon with 11 saves for the Golden Wolves.
Alvernia takes a break from MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday when Susquehanna comes to Reading for a 7:00 PM game.
