Grantham, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2019) - #23 Messiah College (7-2-2, 1-0) scored the only goal of the game in the 64th minute for a 1-0 win over Alvernia University (1-10-2, 0-1) Saturday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer at Messiah.
Messiah finished the game with a 21-12 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corners.
Freshman
Ben Solsky made five saves in net for the Golden Wolves. Nate Flanders stopped four for the Falcons.
Alvernia pressured Messiah early getting a pair of shots in the first minute of play.Â
Matt Lee had a shot saved by Flanders and
Edwin Navas was wide left.
The Wolves best first half chance came in the 20th minute when
Braden Kreider floated a shot from just outside the penalty box that was just over the crossbar.
Messiah cranked up the offense early in the second half with three shots in the first five minutes. The Falcons countered on a Flanders save in the 63rd minute and connected on the first of the season by Nicholas Kane.
Alvernia had a handful of shots over the last 20 minutes, but couldn't convert.
The Wolves continue the season Tuesday at Hood College.
