Frederick, Md. (Oct. 8, 2019) -
Trent Rider scored on a header in the 83rd minute and
Luca Grippi stopped a pair of shots as Alvernia University (2-10-2, 1-1) leveled its conference record with a 1-0 win at Hood College (9-2-2, 0-1) Tuesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action.
The Golden Wolves built a 24-11 advantage in shots over the Blazers, but struggled to convert. Isaac Coeto, Jr. stopped 11 of the 12 shots on net and a few point blank efforts were off target.Â
Braden Kreider had a chance in the 23rd minute that was just over the crossbar and
Taylor Kauffman a shot in the 68th minute that was wide left.
The Alvernia offense broke through with just under eight minutes to play when
Edwin Navas caromed a shot off the right post.Â
Noah Wright collected the rebound and sent the ball back into the mixer where
Trent Rider made no mistake with a header from five yards out.
Grippi made both of his saves in the first 26 minutes of play. The Blazers had opportunities the rest of the night--including a dangerous one in the final seconds--but didn't cash in.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule hosting Stevenson on Friday at 4:00 as the first game of Homecoming and Family Weekend.
