Reading, Pa. (Nov. 13, 2019) - Wilkes University (2-0) won three matches by fall in a 28-12 win over Alvernia University (0-1) Wednesday evening in the first ever wrestling home dual meet for the Golden Wolves.
Alvernia's first bout win came from
Robert Lawlor, a 5-0 decision over Cody Dix at 149 lbs. Lawlor scored a takedown in the first period, a reversal in the third, and earned a point for riding time.
The Golden Wolves were closing in on a second straight decision with
Gavin Hollingsworth leading Liam Flaherty late in the 157 bout, but Flaherty earned a quick reversal and a fall with 34 seconds left in the third period.
Tanner Vogel put three more points on the board for the hosts with a 6-2 decision at 165, but the Colonels earned back-to-back falls at 174 and 184.
Ali Capobianco posted a 3-2 decision at 197 and
Palmer Rodenhaber closed out the night with a 4-0 win in the heavyweight bout.
Capobianco and Moustafa Almeky went scoreless in the first period and Almeky took a 1-0 lead with a point for an escape in the second. Capobianco got the escape back in the third and earned a takedown for a 3-1 lead and held on for the 3-2 win.
Rodenhaber and Austin Cominsky also went scoreless in the first. The Alvernia freshman earned the escape and takedown in the second period then held on for riding time in the third for a 4-0 win.
Alvernia continues the season at the McDaniel's Green Terror Duals on Sunday.
