Allentown, Pa. (Nov. 26, 2019) - After trailing 25-23 at the half, Alvernia University (5-1) put together an impressive second half to down Cedar Crest College (0-5) 66-40 in non-conference women's basketball action at Cedar Crest on Tuesday night.
The Golden Wolves led 13-9 after the first quarter, but Alvernia was held to just ten points in the second quarter, while Cedar Crest put up 16.Â
Both teams went the opening two minutes of the third quarter without scoring, but Alvernia broke the scoring drought with a converted free throw by
Torie Zerbe to make it 25-24 in favor of the Falcons.Â
The Golden Wolves took the lead on
Julia Ewen jumper with 7:55 left in the third quarter, and they would hold on to the lead the rest of the way.Â
Alvernia would go on to outscore Cedar Crest 22-8 in the third quarter and led 45-33 entering the fourth quarter.Â
The Golden Wolves did not allow a field goal in the opening eight minutes of the fourth quarter. Cedar Crest made two free throws with six minutes remaining in the game, and did not score another point until a layup with two minutes remaining.Â
Alvernia would allow just seven total points in the fourth quarter while putting up an additional 21 to take the 66-40 win.
Cathryn Kramer led Alvernia with her first career double-double. Kramer led Alvernia with 13 points and Kramer and Ewen each posted a team-high 12 rebounds.
Abbie Zerbe,
Gabriella De Vito, and
Dee McCormick all reached double digit scoring.Â
Alvernia played 14 players on the night.
The Golden Wolves have off for the weekend, and open their MAC Commonwealth schedule on Wednesday at 8:00 PM with a home game against Lycoming College.Â
