Late Lycoming Run Leads Warriors To 58-46 Win At Alvernia

Reading, Pa. (Dec. 4, 2019) - Lycoming College (5-2, 1-0) ended the game with a 17-9 run to claim a 58-46 win over Alvernia University (5-2, 0-1) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

Alvernia pulled within four points, 41-37 with 6:04 to play on a pair of free throws from Cathryn Kramer.  Lycoming answered with a bucket from Kayla Kline and the Warriors scored 17 of the next 24.

Kramer and Torie Zerbe both finished with 12 points and six rebounds for the Wolves.  Gabriella De Vito finished with 11. Lycoming had four players in double figures led by Morgan Mader who scored 14 points.

Both teams struggled to score early.  Lycoming went 0-for-5 from the floor in the first three and a half minutes and Alvernia went 0-for-2.  Both teams missed a pair of free throws as well.

Alvernia finally broke through at 6:24 when Dee McCormick scored a layup. Abbie Zerbe scored 50 seconds later for a 4-0 lead, and Lycoming's first bucket was a 3-pointer from Mader with 4:13 left in the first quarter.

Mader scored a second 3 with 1:09 left in the first quarter on a two-handed, overhead shot that just beat the shot clock and tied the game at 8-8.  The Warriors took a 9-8 lead on their final possession of the quarter and De Vitto scoring on a running scoop shot under the arm of her defender at the quarter horn for an 11-10 lead.

Scoring was just as tough to come by in the second quarter with Lycoming going 3-for-10 from the floor and Alvernia going 3-for-13.  The teams headed for the locker rooms with the score tied 10-all.

Torie Zerbe hit a 3 that tied the game at 28-28, but Lycoming ended the third quarter on an 8-1 run to take a 36-29 lead through three.  Zerbie scored Alvernia's lone point on the run and four different players scored a bucket each for the Warriors.

The Lycoming lead grew to 11 points, 41-30 two minutes into the fourth quarter, but Alvernia scored seven straight points to close the gap to four.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule Saturday hosting Widener University.
