Reading, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2019) - Abby Zenons recorded the first hat trick in team history and Alvernia University (2-0) held on to defeat Anna Maria (0-2) Saturday afternoon by a 5-4 final in non-conference women's hockey action at The Body Zone.
Alvernia led 2-0 after Zenone's first goal of the game at 11:43 of the first and the Golden Wolves were up 4-1 when she scored the first two goals of the second period--both on the power play.
Anna Maria scored early in the third period on a power play, but Alvernia got the goal right back when
Abby Radcliffe scored assisted by
Mackenzie Jackson at 4:13 of the third.
Alvernia took a total of five penalties in the third period and Anna Maria capitalized scoring power play goals at 8:30 and 9:42 to pull within a goal at 5-4.
The Amcats had another power play in the final minute and added an extra skater with an empty net, but
Julia Beaven made a big save and two other shots went wide.
Morgan Moore scored Alvernia's first goal of the game and Beaven finished with 26 saves to earn the win.
Alvernia returns to action next Friday with its first road game at Neumann University.
