Albright Holds Off Alvernia Late, 73-65

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 14, 2019) - Albright College (12-12, 7-8) held off a late run from Alvernia University (3-21, 0-15) for a 73-65 win Thursday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

Albright held a 57-44 lead after the first bucket of the fourth quarter, but Alvernia responded with eight of the next 10 points to cut the gap to seven points with 6:04 remaining.  Jannelle Robinson scored the final four points of the run on driving layups in the paint.

The teams traded buckets for a few possessions until a 3 from Gabrielle De Vito pulled Alvernia to within six points at 66-60.

Albright responded with six straight to stretch the lead to 12 points and finished off the eight point win.

De Vito led all scorers with 17 points and Robinson finished with 16 points and five steals.  Albright had three players reach double figures led by Dejah Terrell who tallied 15.

The Lions had a commanding 23-10 lead after the first quarter when they hit 8-of-16 shots from the floor including 4-of-7 from the arc.  They added 23 more in the second quarter and led 46-30 at the halftime break.

Alvernia responded with a strong third quarter cutting the deficit down to 10 points, 51-41 with 2:30 left on the clock.

Alvernia wraps up the season Saturday at Lebanon Valley.
