Andrew Ritchie scored four goals to lead Alvernia University (1-1) a 10-9 win over Centenary University (0-2) in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday at Centenary.
The Golden Wolves trailed 1-0 early before Ritchie evened it up at 1-1 with his first goal of the day. Alvernia then took a 2-1 lead with a goal by
Sam St. Croix.
The Cyclones tied it back up at 2-2 with 9:25 left in the first quarter and took a 3-2 lead eight minutes later.
With time expiring in the first quarter, Ritchie struck for a second time to tie back up at 3-3 with three second left in the first quarter.
Ritchie opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the second quarter to give Alvernia back the lead at 4-3.
The Golden Wolves went up 5-3 on a man-up goal by St. Croix, and took a 6-3 lead on another man-up goal by
Keith Lake.
The Cyclones got one back with 4:08 left in the second quarter, but, again as time expired in the quarter, Alvernia scored on a
Thomas Fitzgerald goal.
The Cyclones scored two quick goals coming out of the half to cut Alvernia's lead to 7-6.
The Golden Wolves went back up two with a goal by
Tyler McDonnell, but the Cyclones scored two goals to tie it up at 8-8 at 14:52 left in the game.
Ritchie and
Jarret Abernethy scored back-to-back goals for Alvernia to give them a 10-8 lead.
The Cyclones scored a ma-up goal in the final minute of action, but Alvernia was able to hold on for the 10-9 lead.
Ritchie led Alvernia's offensive efforts with four goals and an assist.
Jacob O'Donnell played all 60 minutes in net for the Golden Wolves, making 19 saves.
The Golden Wolves continue their 2019 schedule on Saturday with a home contest against Wilkes University at 2:00 PM.
