Rachel Judge scored four goals each to lead Alvernia University (1-0) to a 22-1 win over Penn State Abington (0-1) in the season-opener on Saturday at Abington.
The Golden Wolves scored six goals in the first seven minutes of action, including two goals by
Erika Whitmoyer, to take a 6-0 lead.
Penn State Abington got its lone goal of the game with 21:44 left in the first half.
Alvernia held a 15-1 lead at the half, and coasted to a 22-1 win.
Alvernia finished one goal shy of tying the record for most goals scored in a game. The record stands at 23 goals, which came in a 23-6 win over Arcadia in 2007.
The Golden Wolves defense held the Lions to just six shots, including just four shots on goal.
Eight different Golden Wolves scored goals for Alvernia. Defibaugh also finished with three assists in addition to her four goals to lead Alvernia's offense.
Kathrine Giannaras and
Samantha Rothman split time in net for Alvernia, combining for three saves.
This afternoon's win was the first of Head Coach
Megan Corrigan's Alvernia coaching career.
The Golden Wolves continue on the road on Thursday when they take on Lancaster Bible College.
