Reading, Pa. (Feb. 6, 2019) - Arcadia University (19-3, 13-0) scored its last seven points from the free throw line and made 27-of-33 in the second half in a 69-67 win over Alvernia University (11-12, 6-8) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

Alvernia freshman Justin Thomas fouled on on an and-one play for Arcadia's Evan Slone with four minutes to play and after the conversion the Knights led 63-62.  Thomas was the second starter to foul out for the Wolves with Avery Walker already on the bench.

Alvernia missed a corner 3 on the next possession and Anthony Dadson was fouled on the rebound.  He missed the front end of the one-and-one, but Justin Scott missed a layup on the other end.

Alvernia sophomore Keon Taylor drove the lane on the next possession and was whistled for his fifth foul of the game on a push off with Alvernia still trailing by one, 63-62, with 2:55 to go.

Following an Arcadia turnover, Malik Green split to free throws to tie the game at 63-all.

Arcadia went 6-for-8 from the line over the final two minutes while Alvernia went just 1-for-4 and got a 3 from Green at the buzzer.

Green finished with a game-high 28 points and Justin Thomas added 22.  Arcadia had three players reach double figures led by Da'kquan Davis who scored 18 points on the strength of 14-for-17 shooting from the free throw line.

Alvernia remains in fifth place and is now a game ahead of Messiah for the final playoff spot.  Arcadia clinches the top seed and Hood, Widener, and Stevenson all clinch a berth with seedings to be determined.

Alvernia and Messiah both face the same two opponents over the last week of the season--Albright and Lebanon Valley.  Alvernia needs to match Messiah's results and stay one game ahead since Messiah holds the tie-breaker over Alvernia on the strength of the season sweep.

Alvernia has a bye on Saturday and will host crosstown rival Albright College on Tuesday.
