St. Davids, Pa. (Mar. 12, 2019) - Alvernia University (5-13, 1-5) survived a 31-29 win in the opening set on its way to a 3-0 win over Eastern University (5-6, 1-6) Tuesday evening in Middle Atlantic Conference men's volleyball action at Eastern.

The first set was back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than three points. Alvernia had the first crack and a win up 25-24, but Nicholas Hulbert scored back-to-back kills to give Eastern a set-point. Logan McGinley answered for Alvernia with consecutive kills and the teams took turns scoring a point on serve until Eastern failed to score in a 29-all set. The Eagles committed back-to-back attack errors on the final two serves of the set and Alvernia took a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Wolves won 25-20 in the second set then 25-17 in the third to win the match--their first conference win of the season.

McGinley finished with a match-high 11 kills. Victor de Avila had an efficient night with five kills on eight swings with just one error. Spencer Matthews had nine kills and three aces, and Mike Monczewski finished with 30 assists.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule Thursday when it hosts Misericordia.
