Ewing, NJ (Mar. 13, 2019) - Alvernia University (7-4) scored just three hits in the first six innings as The College of New Jersey (1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to a 7-3 victory over the Golden Wolves in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday at TCNJ.
TCNJ opened the scoring with an RBI single to center that drove in a runner who reached on a leadoff double.
The Lions went up 2-0 in the bottom of the third with another single to center.
TCNJ broke it open in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three unearned runs after two errors by the Golden Wolves. The Lion's Gary Otten made Alvernia pay for its errors with a two-run double to left to make it 4-0. The Lions drove in their third run of the inning on a
single to third to make it 5-0.
The Lions made it 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth with a homer to left to lead off the inning.
The Golden Wolves got two back in the top of the seventh with a two-run single to right by
Joe Ginder to score
Alex Salesky and
Nicolaus Morrett to make it 6-2.
The Lions added one more in their half of the seventh on an RBI double down the left field line to make it 7-2.
Alvernia got one more back in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by
Gavin Blankenbiller to score
Mike Cirilli to make it 7-3.
Alvernia was unable to threaten in its final at-bat as the Golden Wolves fell 7-3.
Ginder went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Alvernia's offense.
Brian Kane struck out two and allowed nine hits over five innings in the loss for Alvernia.
TCNJ went through seven pitchers, allowing nine hits by Alvernia.
