Reading, Pa. (Mar. 20, 2019) - Alvernia University (3-4) was held scoreless in the second quarter as Wilkes University (4-3) took a 10-3 lead heading into halftime on its way to a 17-11 win over Alvernia on Wednesday night at Alvernia.
Alvernia took a 2-0 lead early with goals from
Chris Garcia and
Jarret Abernethy.
Wilkes got on the board with a goal from John Wink with 8:26 left in the first quarter to make it 2-1.
Alvernia went back up by two with a goal from
Andrew Ritchie to make it 3-1 with 8:12 left in the first quarter.
The Colonels then went on a 9-0 run over the next 23 minutes to close out the half with a 10-3 lead.
Alvernia's scoreless drought ended seven seconds into the second half with a goal from
Andrew Ritchie.
The Colonels went on a mini 4-0 run over the next four minutes to extend their lead to 14-4.
The Golden Wolves scored the final three of the third quarter to make it 14-7 and scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter to cut Wilkes lead to 14-8.
Alvernia and Wilkes scored three each the rest of the way as the Colonels took the 17-11 win.
Andrew Ritchie led Alvernia's scoring efforts with four goals and one assist.
Jacob O'Donnell played all 60 minutes in net and made 16 saves for Alvernia.
Alvernia hits the road on Saturday as they head to Virginia to take on Bridgewater.
